Building Futures Beyond the Classroom: Scholars Explore Entrepreneurship on the Bordentown Black Business Tour

Foundation Academy Collegiate Scholars with retired NFL player Kevin Johnson, CEO and Leader of Team85 in Bordentown

At Foundation Academies, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. It extends into the real world, where purpose, passion, and possibility come to life.

Recently, our Workforce Development team took FA Collegiate scholars on a powerful Bordentown Black Business Tour, designed to expose them to entrepreneurship, ownership, and what’s possible when vision meets discipline.

Real Estate, Real Conversations

The day began with a visit to the Holly Nance Group, where scholars connected with Will Holly. Through an open and honest conversation, they explored the world of residential real estate, learning what it takes to build and manage a portfolio, create financial stability, and think long-term about wealth.

They received unfiltered insight into how business operates day to day, asked thoughtful questions, and walked away with a clearer understanding of how careers in real estate can become vehicles for independence and impact.

Innovation in Action

Next, scholars visited Team 85 Fitness & Wellness, where they toured the state-of-the-art facility and met with Earl Jenkins, CEO of Core Champion Fitness.

Scholars were introduced to the Core Champion Ultimate Body Trainer and learned what it means to be an innovator. They explored the journey from developing an idea to bringing a product to market. This session highlighted creativity, resilience, and the willingness to take risks—all of which are key components of entrepreneurship.

To bring the experience to life, scholars also participated in a high-energy workout led by Mr. Jenkins himself. They were challenged to push their limits using the Core Champion Ultimate Body Trainer, turning learning into action. This hands-on moment not only reinforced the power of discipline and consistency, but also gave scholars a real feel for the product’s impact.

Discipline, Character, and the Entrepreneurial Mindset

The day closed with an opportunity for scholars to meet retired NFL player and CEO of Team 85 Fitness & Wellness, Kevin Johnson.

Here, the message went beyond business. It focused on mindset.

Kevin Johnson, retired NFL player and CEO of Team 85 Fitness & Wellness, speaks with Foundation Academy Collegiate scholars on Bordentown Black Business Tour

Kevin shared his journey from professional athletics to business ownership, emphasizing the values that carried him through both worlds: perseverance, integrity, discipline, and hard work. Scholars had the opportunity to ask questions about his NFL career and what it takes to build and sustain a business.

Moments like these matter. They give our scholars direct access to lived experiences that reinforce what we teach every day: success is built through consistency, character, and commitment.

Exposure That Builds Opportunity

Experiences like the Bordentown Black Business Tour are central to our Workforce Development program. We are committed to ensuring that our scholars do more than imagine their futures—they actively explore them.

By connecting with business leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators, our scholars are:

  • Expanding their understanding of career pathways

  • Building confidence in professional environments

  • Developing the skills and mindset needed to lead

Most importantly, they are seeing reflections of what they can become.
